First Snow of the Season

Here it comes... a couple of inches last night and a couple more expected tonight.  Just a thin layer of ice on the water - very pretty!

Oh what a big ol' cow

Here's the Maskell Group in front of their cow - the biggest one so far this year.  The other one hanging is the Barre Group's - they've been lucky enough to get two moose this week.

Too Hot for a Moose Hunt!

Despite the heat, John & his gang found a cow and calf yesterday.
Dave (the Ottawa Valley guys) had this bull charging at him, luckily he was ready to take him!

Bob & Kirk's Excellent Adventure

A little hunting... a little fishing... beautiful warm days changing to snow flurries & whitecaps... these guys came from Michigan well-equipped to experience it all.

New Leader in the Fishing Contest!

Keith is now leading the fishing contest for pickerel - he caught this 7.25 lb fish at the mouth of the river.  It's the biggest one he's ever caught - good job Keith!

Two More Bears...

Keri and Tobias shot their bears on the same day - congratulations! Neither one had ever hunted bear before, Keri came up from Southern Ontario and Tobias came all the way from Norway.

Successful Opening of Bear Hunt!

Bear hunt season opened last week and the camp got three bears! Congratulations to Mark, Andy & Dave for their successful hunts. They all have exciting stories to tell... especially Dave, who was in a ground blind and witnessed two big bears fighting viciously nearby!

All Smiles!

Tyler didn't have to go far for this nice bass... he caught it right off the dock on the Holiday weekend. Good job Tyler!

Nice Fish

Chris caught this 12 lb pike right where the creek meets the river. He wasn't very prepared, by himself with a wimpy net, but somehow he got her into the boat!

Thanks ATV Nation!

Many thanks to the gang from ATVNation.com for chosing us to host their 2011 Ride! What an awesome group of people... some drove as long as 25 hours to come explore the Canadian trails. They found a little of everything - mud, sand, rocks, water crossings - and came upon some wildlife as well. It was a pleasure riding with this great group!

Good Start!

Spring fishing is really picking up! After losing the fishing contest in 2010, Jeff from the Trailer Park Boys beat the guys this year. This almost 5 lb bass sure helped his score!

Loving the Warm Weather

We can tell that Spring is really here, animals are everywhere. We saw an otter, a fox, a skunk, a grouse, 2 moose and a bear - all in the same day! The poor calf in the photo has been wandering around for several days, unfortunately his mother was killed and now he has to make it on his own.

Back to Work

There's still piles of snow around the camp and some more flurries today...but the work never ends! Bruce has been grading the driveway, putting a new shower in the Raven's Cove cottage, assembling new BBQs, and measuring for a new floor in the Barn cottage.

BIG SNOW!

The snow is hitting us hard right now - with more to come!

The trails are still looking great...

but the sleds are not so good! It's been a fun season, but lots of breakdowns & accidents! We've had several cancellations due to broken sleds (it happens!) and two of our own snowmobiles died. The only one going strong was Jenn's little Polaris... but then she crashed it into a tree (it's totalled, she's not!) A big group from PA spent yesterday taking apart one of their sleds, only to discover they were sent the wrong parts. Oh well... MORE SNOW EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND!

Some Trails Open

Our first group of snowmobilers came from Kirkland Lake this weekend... they had a lot of fun until the broken ankle! At least he's still smiling (or trying to!)
Some of the trails are now open around Matachewan and north, but still waiting for more snow south of Elk Lake.
