Not Yet...

Although we've had some snow, the snowmobile trails are not open yet. The groomer is gassed up and ready to go, but the temperature isn't cooperating. We need colder weather for the trails to set up properly. We'll let you know as soon as they're open!

2nd Week = 3 Cows, 1 Bull (8 This Season!)

You couldn't miss the Maskell Group heading home this year - a trailerful of ATVs & moose! They got the cow earlier in the week, and on the last night, Ryan Wilkin shot a bull. Several of the groups who arrived today had spotted them going the opposite direction - what a sight!

Darren Weese (shown kneeling) pulled the trigger on this nice cow. They hunted with the Barre group, and were able to fill the tag this past Wednesday. Nice job!

Two More Cows

Last week, the hunters in camp filled their tags within the first two days - they got 2 bulls, a cow and a calf. This week is starting out the same! First, Bob from the Maskell group shot a cow... then the Garskey group brought in another cow (shot by Jamie on his first moose hunt!) There's more tags to be filled, so stay tuned...

She loved to eat!

Roy, Serge, Bruce, Brooke, & Brent toast to the bear on the table that Serge just brought in. He got her off Sissney Road, and she's a chubby gal! Short & thick, weighing in at 320 lbs.

FINALLY!

This is Tony's third time hunting bear, and tonight he finally had just the right opportunity! The whole camp is thrilled for Tony - he was getting so frustrated trying to outsmart those clever bears.

Congratulations Greg!

What a beautiful pelt! This bear, shot by Greg from Michigan, has a nice white "V" on her chest. He shot her with a bow, right before dark last night.

Nice Pike Mike!

It was a cold rainy day here today, but Mike stuck it out and was able to land this 36" 14lb pike on an outlake. Congratulations!

Sisters?

We know Sam & Tony aren't sisters, but maybe their bears are! Both bears are female, weighing the same at 225 lbs. This is Sam's 5th bear and Tony's 7th bear - these guys from Michigan love to hunt!

Preston's First Bear

Preston has seen a number of bears in the last couple of years... and he finally had the right opportunity to get one of his own. Now he just has to get it home to Wyoming!

Two More Bears...

Another good night for the bear hunt! Two were brought in last night, both by guys who had never seen a bear before yesterday. Pictured are guide Roy, camp owner Bruce, hunter Mike, hunter John, and Mike's son Chris. Stay tuned to see if Chris gets his bear this week...

Movie Night at the Golden Eagle!

The Boutin's sure had a lot of fun at their family reunion... they rented 6 cottages, played games, had a scavenger hunt, and even had a special showing at the Hawk's Haven. What an awesome idea!

Record Setting Week!

In their 8 days of fishing, Huelin and his son Dan from West Virginia caught 294 fish! They have been coming to Golden Eagle Camp for over 20 years. Every year, they record each fish caught in a log book before releasing. 2010 is now their record year!

Fish by Day, Jam by Night

This great group of guys (Mark, Allan, Angus, Duane, Bryan & Brian) are multi-talented! Fishing, drinking, playing guitar...it doesn't get any better than this. Thanks for the excellent entertainment!

Hockey Players Go Fishing

This local group of hockey buddies also like to fish. On Friday night, Mike Lazoryshak caught the biggest pickerel (28 in. 6.5 lb)... but it didn't count in their Saturday tournament. It was put back in the creek to grow bigger for next time.

1st Down the Slide in 2010!

After more than his share of jello shooters, Jean-Gilles had the courage to strip down to his boxers and hit the slide! BRRR! Good thing the sauna was nice and hot...

Our fishing guide Eddie took Bruce to a new remote lake today... very hard to get into, but good for pike!

Finally!

The staining had never been completed on the Hawk's Haven cottage - but it is now! Thanks to the Town of Matachewan for lending the HUGE ladder.

Spring Into Action!

It's not just the bears who are out of hibernation! We're working hard to get the cottages spiffed up - here's Bruce assembling some new BBQs (why do they have to come in SO MANY different pieces?)

Trespasser

The cute little fox can only come so close... before camp dogs Hunter & Heidi chase him back into the bush!

Happy Trails!

After breakfast, these sledders are hitting the trails - all OFSC trails in our district are open and in good shape. We're hearing rave reviews!

As big as a house!

Our local snowmobile club, the Elk Lake Trailblazers, are working hard to keep the trails smooth. Since the groomer is being kept here at Golden Eagle, our private trail is better than ever - like a snow highway through the wilderness!

Snowmobile Trails Are Open...

...but limited. The scenery is beautiful out on the trails, but we need some more snow! For the latest trail conditions in our area, check out the TATA website
